Corrosion behaviour of mild steel in aqueous acetic acid solutions containing different amounts of formic acid

چکیده
The kinetics of mild steel corrosion in 20:0, 19:1, 18:2 and 15:5 (v/v%) aqueous mixture of acetic and formic acids has been investigated by weight loss and potentiostatic polarization techniques. The effects of composition of electrolyte and temperature on the corrosion rate of mild steel have been evaluated. The corrosion rate of mild steel increased linearly with temperature as well as amount of formic acid in the mixture. Anodic polarization curves exhibited active nature over the whole range of potential at each composition and temperature. Addition of sodium acetate to the mixture led to the transition from active to active-passive-transpassive behaviour in the solutions having lower concentration of formic acid. On replacing sodium acetate by sodium formate, and sodium sulphate, no change in the nature of polarization behaviour is observed.

Corrosion and Inhibition Studies of Copper in Aqueous Solutions of Formic Acid and Acetic Acid
Corrosion behaviour of copper has been investigated in different compositions of formic acid and acetic acid at 30°C by a potentiostatic method. The maximum corrosion rate was found in 2&40mol/o formic acid and in 20 mol/o acetic acid in aqueous solution mixtures. The corrosion rate depended on the concentration of either acid. Formic acid is observed to be more corrosive than acetic acid. The ...

In this study, a new mild steel surface pretreatment solution is introduced based on phosphoric acid containing a benzimidazole derivative as inhibitor. In this way, three different benzimidazole derivatives namely benzimidazole BI, 2-methyl benzimidazole 2MBI and 2-aminobenzimidazole 2ABI were studied in the 1M H3PO4 using DC and AC electrochemical techniques. Results revealed the better corro...
متن کاملSeparation of Formic Acid from Aqueous Solutions by Liquid Extraction Technique at Different Temperatures
In this study, the separation of formic acid from aqueous solutions was investigated. Liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data including tie-lines was reported for water + formic acid + 2-methylpropyl ethanoate ternary mixture at (293.15 to 323.15) K and atmospheric pressure. The system shows type-I phase behavior based on Treybal’s classification because only one partially miscible binary mixture ...

Jatropha curcas leaves extract was tested as a green corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in aqueous hydrochloric acid solution using gravimetric and thermometric techniques. The results reveal that the inhibition efficiency vary with concentration of the leaf extract and the time of immersion. Maximum inhibition efficiency was found to be 95.92% in 2M HCl with 0.5 g/l concentration of the extrac...
